Look after the woodland, and it looks after everything else.

Drumhierny is 100 acres of native Irish woodland, and the woodland was here long before we were. Everything we do is shaped around protecting it, so the forest your children run through is still here for theirs.

We’re not perfect, and we won’t pretend to be. But we believe doing a little is always better than doing nothing. Here’s what we do.

Timber from the estate, back into the estate

What the woodland gives, stays in the woodland.

When trees are harvested here, they don’t leave. Estate timber is crafted into bespoke furniture for the lodges and the Cedaroo, our outdoor seating area among the trees.

Water, used carefully

Every lodge is fitted with low-flow showers, taps and toilets. We monitor our water use constantly and keep looking for ways to use less.

Small measures, made everywhere, add up.

Energy, measured and reduced

We track our electricity use regularly and work to bring it down using solar power in the lodges, in the café, across the estate. Our team, our suppliers and our guests are all part of that.

Local first

We buy locally wherever possible, from growers, producers and craftspeople in Leitrim and beyond. It supports the community around us, cuts transport miles, and keeps the estate feeling like the place it’s in.

Where something must come from further afield, we choose fair trade. And we only buy what we need.

Honest, always

Sustainability is a journey, and we’re still on it. We’ll always tell you honestly where we are, what’s working, what we’re improving, and what we haven’t figured out yet.
